Paul Kidby News Update – November/December 2011

This month has seen the exciting launch of Sir Terry's latest novel ‘Snuff' and it has been a thrill for me to see my cover illustration appearing in all sorts of places. Thanks to Quintin Smith who took this photo at Newcastle Railway Station.

The original artwork was exhibited and sold at the Art of the Imagination recent exhibition in Berkley Square, London.

It has been a busy month for Paul Kidby bronzes with a total of seven pieces in production at the foundry. Obsidian the panther made a flying start and number five of the edition of twelve is currently in production. We have also given Pegasus a new pale patina that captures the spiritual quality of this mythical animal and fits more closely with the original artwork I produced back in 2009.

My thanks go to the dedicated team at Sculpture Castings for their painstaking and skilled work.

I have recently given an interview to Fantasy Book Review on the creation of the Discworld book jacket ‘Night Watch'. To read about my studio processes and inspirations for this illustration please click the link.

I have also produced new artwork for the November cover of the annual anthology by French publishers Fan2Fantasy. "Hommage à Sir Terence" features articles by eleven authors who pay tribute to Terry Pratchett and his emblematic character Death. For the cover I have parodied the classic scene from the film ‘The Seventh Seal' where the knight plays chess with Death on the sea-shore. My sketch was taken to full colour, (by which I mean full monotone paint treatment), after being given the thumbs up from Terry and the publishers. The final cover will be revealed on the 26th of November.

Meanwhile here is a section of the sketch…

I have recently donated a drawing to the charity auction Incognito, where unsigned originals will be sold on Sunday 13th November to raise money for the Great Ormond Street Hospital & St. James School.

Keep warm,
